iChing – Hidden Dragon – Do Not Act

“The main thing is not to expend one’s powers prematurely in an attempt to obtain by force something for which the time is not yet ripe”
Found this quote in my journal from 1996. Liked it enough to share again 14 years later.
An interesting side not, the very first true coin flip reading i did from the i Ching ended up with P’i – Standstill – which is now tattooed on my left arm.
From the journal entry sometime novemberish 1996:
“When ribbon grass is pulled up, the sod comes with it. Each according to his kind. Perseverance brings good fortune and success. Hiding from the public eye.”

Still

The i-ching keeps telling me to stand still. P’i. Again for the third time. I don’t know what to make of this repeat repeat repeat repeat fortune. I get it. Stop screwing up. But I can’t stand here alone much longer. I need to get out, I need to get back up and fight again.

On a more positive note, a fat black squirrel has been coming to my feeder lately. She’s been there almost every morning when I open the shades. Note to self: more squirrel food.

42 and 21 and both make sense

I asked the tarot first. It said 21. The Universe. No small irony there.

Then i asked the I-Ching. It said 42 – Increase. Wind and Thunder.

The idea of increasing is expressed in the fact that the strong lowest line of the upper trigram has sunk down and take its place under the lower trigram. This conception also expresses the fundamental idea on which the Book of Changes is based. To rule truly is to serve.

A sacrifice of the higher element that produces an increase of the lower is called an out-an-out increase: it indicates the spirit that alone has power to help the world.

Sacrifice on the part of those above for the increase of those below fills the people with a sense of joy and gratitude that is extremely valuable for the flowering of the commonwealth.

I used my iPhone I-Ching to get this hexagram. In my fathers book of the I Ching, this hexagram immediately follows P’i, standstill, which you may recall from the ink on my left arm. After watching Wall-E and seeing it end with turtles and them looking up into a tree, while the song says “come down to the ground” makes me eerily aware that this cannot all possibly be a cooincidence.

It’s time for change.

Héng – The Enduring

Endurance. Being constant. Perseverance furthers.
Formed by Thunder and Wind.
This trigram is scarily appropriate for who I am today, and what the world was today. It was incredibly windy and we had a nice thunderstorm.
“If we are in pursuit of game and want to get a shot at a quarry, we must set about it in the right way. A man who persists in staling game in a place where there is none may wait forever without finding any. Persistence in search is not enough. What is not sought in the right way is not found.”
